Career in Recruitment - What does it take?

More than just skills and knowledge, it takes character to be successful in the executive recruitment industry.   Some of the common character traits of our most successful search consultants are listed below.

Resourcefulness and Perseverance
In the search profession, you’ll never ever get bored.  No matter how long you’ve been in the industry, no matter how many times you have done the ‘same’ job, each assignment is different.  And that’s because no two clients are exactly the same. Each assignment, and each client’s unique situation, will present new challenges and learning opportunities.  You’ll never stop growing and learning unless you chose to.  As a search consultant, you’ll need to be resourceful and persevering, constantly challenging yourself to break new ground and discover new horizons.

Commitment
Headhunting is not a 9 to 5 job.  You need to be willing to put in the time to see results.  You will often need to work past standard office hours. When you handle regional search assignments, your job will take you away from your family.  To be successful in this profession, you need to take pride, ownership and responsibility for your work quality.

Resilience and Optimism
Like in any other profession, search professionals have their fair share of ups and downs.  You need to be resilient;  able to pick yourself up and go and remain highly motivated and optimistic.

Love for people
Executive recruitment is a people business and dealing with people can be complex at times.   To enjoy this profession, you’ll need to have a genuine love for people and possess a healthy dose of common sense.

Good humor
At Wright Starr Global, we work hard and we play hard.  We are not afraid to make mistakes.  We enjoy laughing at some of our mistakes, learning the lessons and moving on from there.  The job is tough but the rewards are immensely satisfying.
